Hi! I have been a school counselor for 15 years and I've worked with youth in different environments for over 20 years. I started out as an anxious and painfully shy kid with attention issues myself.
I was the kid in the back of the room distracted by every noise and needed to see the school nurse A LOT. I never knew why I had frequent stomach aches and headaches and times when I felt like I couldn't breathe. Through personal development work and learning about treating anxiety and depression in kids as a School Counselor I was able to understand that what I went through as a kid was treatable. I have been helping youth for years but felt like I should be doing more. If only I could get kids outside to learn emotional regulation strategies while soaking in nature, doing something active and overcoming challenges.
I took the 5 things that are backed by science and evidence based programs to help manage stress: nature, physical activity, name it to tame it (emotional management), learning mindfulness/self- regulation strategies and helping others/giving back and created the Outdoor Adventure Life Coaching Program!
Andrea is uniquely altruistic in her work helping young people overcome obstacles and live their best life.
Beyond her training and vast experience in a variety of counseling and coaching arenas, Andrea is simply
one of a kind. Her compassionate demeanor is what draws young people of all ages to her.
I have seen it in real time and really admire it!
Andrea Ackerly genuinely loves working with students. This translates into providing students with a
trusting and caring environment where students can learn and grow. She makes them feel comfortable
and this allows them to be successful in their healing process. They become confident in their abilities to
handle whatever comes their way.
I have worked with Andrea Ackerly for many years and I just love her caring, calm demeanor that she has
with children of all ages. Andrea is so easy to talk to and often uses humor to brighten any mood! She
also uses mindfulness and teaches it to others. She truly makes a difference every day!
My family and I had the pleasure of working with Andrea when my child was in elementary school. Andrea
has a special way of connecting with children on a personal level, and making them feel seen as
individuals. We are grateful for the support and time spent working with Andrea Ackerly, and my family
(and now teen) would highly recommend her for your families needs!
Andrea exudes warmth, compassion and acceptance. Children are naturally drawn to her and her ability
to meet them exactly where they are at. She helps children develop skills that promote resilience. Her
relational dynamics create a natural foundation of support and healing. Combining her skills with outdoor
expression is an investment in holistic well being.
Andrea also co-authored a children's book and has more on the way with themes of resilience, kindness and love. She just released the 2nd edition of The Dove Who Inspired Beyond Barbed Wire and renamed it; Kids' Search for Meaning: The Life and Teachings of Viktor Frankl.
Inspire Kids to Find Strength, Purpose, and Hope—Even in Difficult Times.
Kids’ Search for Meaning: The Life and Teachings of Viktor Frankl introduces young readers to an important moment in history through the powerful story of Viktor Frankl, a Jewish psychiatrist and neurologist who survived years in captivity during World War II. Rather than focusing on the darkness of the past, this book highlights Frankl’s incredible resilience and the lessons he shared about choosing love over hate, hope over despair, and meaning over suffering.
More than just a history lesson, this book teaches children and adults how to find meaning in life’s challenges through Frankl’s groundbreaking philosophy of Logotherapy—the foundation of Positive Psychology. With easy-to-understand language, authors Andrea M Ackerly and Kimberly JB Smith help kids explore deep but essential questions: What makes life meaningful? How can we choose love over hate? How do we stay hopeful even in hard times?
Perfect for parents, educators, and young readers curious about history, psychology, and personal growth, this inspiring book offers real-life tools for finding purpose and living with love. Educators—this is a perfect resource for teaching an important time in history while also integrating social-emotional learning, helping students build resilience, empathy, and a sense of purpose.
